This document will help you install and select an HP LaserJet 4 printer
driver for Harvard Graphics version 3.0. Technical support for this driver
is available from Software Publishing Corporation at (408) 988-4005.
INSTALLING A PRINTER DRIVER
Setting up your HP LaserJet 4 printer with Harvard Graphics 3.0 is a two-
step process:
1. Installing the printer driver.
2. Selecting the printer driver in Harvard Graphics.
To Install the HP LaserJet 4 printer driver follow these steps:
1. Insert the driver disk in drive A: (or B:).
2. At the operating system prompt, type A: (or B:), then press [Enter] to
make A: (or B:) the current drive.
3. At the prompt, copy the driver files to the DRIVER subdirectory in the
directory where Harvard Graphics 3.0 is installed (for example, type
COPY *.* C:\HG3\DRIVER), then press [Enter].
SELECTING AND CONFIGURING A PRINTER DRIVER
To select the HP LaserJet 4 printer driver you installed, start Harvard
Graphics 3.0 and follow these steps:
1. At the [F6]- Main Menu, select [8]-Setup menu.
2. Select [5]-Printer 1 Setup Menu.
3. With the cursor highlighting the "Printer type" selection, press
[F3]-Choices to see a list of printers.
4. Use the "arrow" keys to scroll through the list of printer drivers,
highlight one of the following drivers, then press enter:
"HP LaserJet 4 (HPGL/2)
"HP LaserJet 4 (HPGL/2) BPrI," if you have the "Brilliant
Presentations I Compelling Publications II" font Cartridge
"HP LaserJet 4 (HPGL/2) DDocI" printer driver if you have the
"Distinctive Documents I/Compelling Publications I" font cartridge
5. Press [Tab] to highlight "Output port," then press [F3]-Choices to list
available ports. Select the port your printer is using, then press
[Enter].
6. Press [Tab] to highlight "Default paper size." Press [F3]-Choices,
select the appropriate paper size, then press [Enter].
7. Press [Tab] to highlight "Use Spooler." Press [F3]-Choices, select
"Yes" or "No," then press [Enter].
Note: Setting "Use spooler" to "Yes" initiates the Harvard Graphics
internal printer spooler which will allow you to return to
work within Harvard Graphics sooner after printing. If you
select "No" for this option, you will have to wait until the
entire print job has completed to continue working.
If you are using another print spooler,(a hardware spooler or
a software spooling utility, for example), you should select
"No" for the "Use spooler" option. Do not use the Harvard
Graphics spooler while any other spooler is active.
8. Press [Tab] to highlight "Quality", press [F3]-(Choices), highlight
High, Medium or Low print quality, then press [Enter].
9. After making all selections, select [F10]-Continue, then press the
"Esc" key to return to the F6-Main Menu.
